What is a wastegate?

A wastegate is a valve that regulates the flow of exhaust gas from the engine to the turbocharger. It controls the flow of exhaust gas to the turbocharger turbine and at the same time regulates the boost pressure that the turbo produces for the engine.

For a wastegate to work properly, it must be a suitable combination with the engine and turbocharger. This ensures the user has sufficient control over the boost pressure.

There are two types of waste ports:

  • External waste ports
  • Internal waste gates operated by actuator
